Albena Limoni

Albena Limoni

Albena Limoni is an illustrator based in Bulgaria, one of the partners at Studio Frank—a studio for visual communication across branding, visual identity, and both printed and digital matter—and the creator of the Illustration Station Community. She has a deep love for visual storytelling, especially in children’s books and educational projects. Alongside her illustration work, Albena is passionate about building creative communities, believing that creativity thrives when shared through knowledge exchange and honest dialogue.

Her interests extend beyond illustration: she has a lasting affection for photography, a fascination with birds, extinct species, and wild mushrooms, and a love for film scores that transport her to different worlds. Her latest collection is a collaboration with her daughter, Simona Bonboni.

Which piece would you leave in a time capsule for the Balkans?

Maybe a drawing of naked people.

The most underrated Balkan thing is...

The Balkan brain.

If your art had a smell, what would it be?

A forest maybe. A pine.

What’s a weird habit you have when you're making stuff?

I don't know if it's weird, but I always try to find the right music to match the mood of what I’m working on. And if I can't find it I usually put on the "Night storms" playlist, it always works perfectly.

If your art were a person at a party, what would they be doing?

Maybe they would leave the party.

What’s one thing you secretly wish people noticed in your work?

I often hide little details in my illustrations—things meant to be noticed on a second glance. Maybe I don’t even want them to be discovered right away.

What would your art taste like if someone tried to eat it?

Like not-that-sweet brownie. But maybe also it would taste like raspberries.

If your childhood self saw your work now, what would they say?

They would be happy I listened to them. Maybe something like 'Woooow, did I do that??'

What’s the color you like the most, and the least?

The most I like all of them, the least I like brown.

When you’re stuck, what’s your go-to move?

Try a different direction and with a different material or technique.
